This particular '73 trap door carbine is a true rarity. It's a 1st year production 1873 without any upgrades and it's also documented  to the 3rd. Cavalry.  It comes with a Springfield Research letter stating that according to the records of U.S Army Chief of Ordinance's Office this carbine was turned in damaged to the Cheyenne Ordinance Depot by Maj.A.W. Evans, 3rd. U.S.Cavalry of Ft.Laramie, Wy. in 1879.  This carbine participated in some of the fiercest  fighting of the Indian Wars . First in Arizona until 1876 then the 3rd Cav. was transferred to the Dept. of the Platte where they took part in the Big Horn and Yellowstone expeditions participating in the fighting on the Tongue River, M.T ( June 9, 1876 ) on the Rosebud ( June 17, 1876 } and at Slim Buttes (Sept. 9, 1876 ).
