These S & W #2 Army’s were very popular with officers in the Civil War. This one is serial # 26366 which puts right in the middle of the war. The engraving is very fine and appears to be the work of L.D. Nimschke. It retains about 75% of it’s original nickel finish with remnants of it’s original gold wash cylinder finish present in the engraved circle and star design. The ivory grips have taken on a beautiful mellow patina. Action is good and locks up solid. A very attractive Civil War pistol.
